The central cartouche has the portrait of a grinning girl, flanked to either side by finely carved guirlandes of flowers and scrolls, on the corners two beautiful large twisted seashells that protrude from the surface. All beneath a large shaped and moulded top. The jambs have carved St Jacques coquilles above panels with carved waterfall shaped decoration.
This fireplace is one of the most incredible fireplaces in our collection, a true masterpiece.
This highly decorated fireplace reminds us of the work of Lavirotte (1864-1928), a French Art Nouveau architect whose work represents the most freeform and audacious designs, and is known for example for his pretty Art Nouveau facade at number 3 square Rapp in Paris.
